ABOUT US
Our Focus
Steps of Hope is an Education Center for children ages 3-14 located in Santa María de Jesús, Guatemala. We believe that education is the way to change the course of a child’s life. Education is a process, and the results are not immediate. The more basic skills the child has to continue learning and growing, as well as knowledge about the world outside of their community and the Lord, the more opportunities they have to succeed and to have the life they dream of.
BRINGING GOD'S HOPE
Our Mission
Steps of Hope – Guatemala is a Christian learning resource center that supports the children of Santa María de Jesús by empowering them and their families to live abundant lives filled with educational opportunity.
WHAT WE DO
Tutoring Program
This program offers scheduled weekly sessions to build basic math and reading mastery for public school students with learning gaps and for children lacking public education access, while encouraging recreational interaction with classmates. Attendees also receive a hot meal each visit!
This program provides children with necessary school supplies, backpacks, uniforms, and shoes required to attend public school. Without this support, program participants would miss out on formal education opportunties.
Language Learning
This program improves future employment and academic success by teaching English, tutoring in Spanish required for public school graduation, and provides computers and internet access to facilitate learning and school success.
Community Outreach
Our staff conducts in-home visits to understand the specific needs of each family and each child. We also use these visits to identify potential home improvement projects and other opportunities for visiting volunteers and mission teams.
Bunk Beds
Sadly, in rural Guatemala, 1 in 4 children is the victim of sexual abuse. We provide bunk beds to local families to help reduce this unfortunate situation and to provide safe accommodations for young children.
Medical Support
This program provides professional dental care via a local clinic, arranges child surgeries through medical missions, and ensures that program participants can grow in body, mind, and spirit.
